Egypt Minister of Culture, Dr. Farouk Hosni, said Japan has endorsed a loan & a grant to part finance the $ 550 million new Egyptian museum project planned in Giza on 117 feddans area. Project goes under a design put by an Irish consulting house. The Minister was further quoted revealing that the Supreme Council for Antiquities will raise the major portion of the project costs depending on its own resources & revenues, apart from $ 275 million loan & $ 40 million grant from Japan. Dr. Hosni has further assured the project would recover its investments in 12 years of operation following its inauguration, scheduled for 5 years from date. N.B. So far no mention was given to selected project main contractor or to contract value. Still media reports have indicated that the project, to host up to 100,000 pieces of valueless antiquities, is sponsored by an executive committee chaired by First Undersecretary Farouk Abdel Salam. Project Executive Director is Mr. Mohamed Ghoneim & he was quoted in the media indicating that the project site would be delivered to the winning contractor on the first of May 2005. |
