18 international consortia have bought documents to submit offers for phase 1 & 2 of Cairo Metro third line. They include Egyptian & international consortia of companies from Japan, China, South Korea, France, Italy, Germany, Spain & Greece. Egypt Minister of Transport, Dr. Eng. Essam Sharaf, said deadline to put offers is set for 2/1/2006. Chairman of NAT - National Authority for Tunnels, said 40 companies submitted prequalification applications for the project, of which 18 were shortlisted and they have all bought documents. Dr. Sharaf indicated that project is offered in five lots including (a) signals, central automatic control & communications, (b) civil works, (c) electromechanical works, (d) track construction & (e) rolling stock. Estimated costs of both stages are put at L.E. 6.2 billion. N.B. Project is of a strategic nature to Egypt in the present stage & local manufacture component is crucial. A.O.I. Arab Organization for Industrialization, now owner of Semaf Factory for Railways Equipment, is a core player in that project. |
