New decree was recently issued by the Minister of Health & Population obliging each hospital to have its own incinerator, alternatively to contract an external incinerator to assure safe disposal of hospital waste. That was announced by Mr. Mahmoud Abdel Maksoud, Secretary General of the Pharmacists Syndicate & quoted in the media. He stressed the need for strict adherence to the decree to stop widely spread illegal re-use of such disposed items representing serious threat to patients’ safety & life. How fast and to which extent an efficient mechanism would be drawn to promptly enforce implementation of the above and strictly penalize violators, that remains to be seen. |
