A responsible source of GAFI – General Authority for Investment, was quoted in the media indicating that a new company was recently licensed to implement a $ 526 million project to produce ammonia on 260,000 M2 land at the Industrial Zone, to the north west of Suez Gulf, to operate under the provisions of law 8/ 1997. Approval, according to the source, was issued by the Permanent Committee for Free Zones Affairs Chaired by GAFI. Deputy Chairman, Mr. Mahmoud Atallah. The company (project owner) is capitalized at $ 185 million. Major shareholders in the company includes, apart from Eng. Onsi Sawires, EGPC, Middle East Petrochemicals Corps., PSK Holding & Amiral Ammonia Overseas Ltd. of the UK. The project, to export 100 % of its output abroad, would generate 560 employment opportunities. |
